Description
Over the past few years I’ve seen many examples of Navajo chief blankets from the last 300 years, and through the years I’ve gleaned the best of what the early weavers were creating. Warm serviceable tough and recognizable. The blanket has ansctral version as early as the 10th century and the blanket has evolved with the materials and techniques acculturated from travelers and social changes. Some early fragments from the 1700s are black white and brown where the brown seemed to be the early color used before Blue. Early blankets also referenced Navajo stories and songs which was taken into account in this weaver hidden in every strip and symmetry. This is a series of 6 blankets made to track the progress of the Navajo Chief Blanket.
